CFC's first medical mission departed Karachi for Mardan and Swat on Saturday May 30, 2009. The medical teams comprised of a doctor, a LHV and a dispenser and carried out daily health camps in different IDP settlements.
The team was supported in this mission by GlaxoSmithKline Pakistan Limited, Shaheen Air International, AsiaCare, Procter and Gamble, Unilever et cetra
In Mardan, CFC worked in conjunction with the Omer Asghar Khan Development Foundation and was able to provide a complete medical profile of 217 IDP's housed in 4 schools. First aid and immediate medical needs were met through daily camps, while chronic conditions and pregnancies were identified for follow up care.
In Swabi, the CFC team worked alongside Sungi Development Foundation and was able to profile a total of 413 IDP's housed in 3 locations.
Along with medications, much needed sanitary napkins and underwear were dispensed at the camps. Many IDP's suffering from chronic health conditions such as hypertension and diabetes need continued medical care. Additionally, prenatal vitamins, childrens vitamins and isphagol are in short supply.
Additional needs that were identified in these site visits, were the dire need for psychosocial interventions, particularly for young children. CFC is planning to utilize it's experience in art therapy to create healing programs for IDP children.
